As One H/Hr to Another, I Could Seriously Kick Your Ass...
Okay, anyone who knows me on here knows I'm an H/Hr girl. Nothing really against Ron and Ginny, but I really didn't love the DH epilogue. This isn't to say that the H/G and R/Hr shippers don't have a right to their pairings, but I just didn't find the ending realistic. That, again, is just me. It was written to give readers the ultimate happy ending.
My version that lives in my head goes differently. But that's it. It's fanfic. JK's world is JK's world. I just play in it.
So, again, H/Hr shipper. Not batshit, doesn't play in the Harmony sandbox on the 'net, but loves her ship like WOAH and DAYUM.
Now, that said, if I ever find this person, I'll string them up. Seriously. And this is why I don't play in the HP fandom. JUST...*pauses, then beats their ass*

SQUICK ALERT!
I ... just stumbled upon a link to a fic (which I will NOT link) on the Pit where Ron basically makes Hermione his prisoner, takes her wand away from her, and with the help of Molly and Arthur use some sort of pureblood magic on her that will force her to marry Ron and have his kids. Somehow (the story never really says - or if it did I skipped that part because I skimmed a lot of it) she gets away and finds Harry and tells him (as well as the reader in a display of telling instead of showing) what happened. She also asks Harry to marry her and he tells her he's always been in love. In fact he was going to ask her to be his girlfriend but never did because he saw Ron kiss her that one time in DH. (Uh, nevermind that Hermione kissed him first but when should this author let actual CANON get in her way of a ... well, I won't say good even in sarcasm ... story ...)
But that's not all! After Harry and Hermione get married they decide to get their revenge on the Weasleys. Hermione strings Ron up and cuts off his penis - taunting him while she does - and then she forces it down Ginny's throat and watches her die of asphyxiation.
I can't even. Just ... What?
The author says in her user information she reads her fan fiction to her grandkids.
I got nothing.
I gotta admit, we really are two of a few that are actually sane. It's no wonder Jo was scared of them.
Re: SQUICK ALERT!
I... what? No, really, what the fucking fuck? Every time I even try to think up a coherent response, my brain just dies.
Pe- no, creatures like this make me want to say 'Get the fuck OOF our side, bitch!'
*reaches for extra-strength brain bleach, Scotch, and her stuffed cat, not necessarily in that order*
BRB, crying in the corner now...
Re: SQUICK ALERT!
I mean most fans of anything are normal - regardless of shipping preferences - it's just the loud ones who get the attention.
Regarding the fic - I admit I was rolling my eyes and feeling sick at the whole depiction of the Weasleys (I love my Weasleys!) but when I got to the bit about Hermione cutting off Ron's penis and then using it to kill Ginny I just ... ugh.
And she reads that stuff to her GRANDKIDS. I mean - what the Hell?!?!?!?

I know you're not anything like that.
And dude, I love Ron/Hermione - it's my OTP of all OTPs and I didn't care for the epilogue so there ya are! :)
That icon his seriously HILARIOUS by the way. :D

The EWE just tied things up too neatly. Now, if she had done this around the end of Book Three, maybe. But after DH? Too sweet and too perfect. Everyone gets a happy ending. Meh. You were so real with the rest of DH, why candy-coat the ending?

I think the problem with the epilogue - in my mind anyway - is that it's very jarring to go from all of that emotion of DH to the 'and they all lived happily ever after' feel of it without some sort of bridge for the reader to make the leap from one to the other. I also think there really needed to be some sort of memorial/funeral scene so the readers could say 'goodbye' to their favorite characters who died in DH. There needed to be some sort of closure there before making that leap to the 'happily ever after' of the epilogue.
I think people would still bitch about it if there had been something like that because HP fans sure do know how to bitch but for this reader that sure would have made the epilogue feel less jarring.
The other problem, again in my reading of it, is that it feels so obvious she wrote it back when she was first starting to write the entire series (I think she's confirmed this in an interview but it's been a while so don't quote me on that) and as such the style of DH goes from a style that is aimed for at least an older teenaged reader (as each book progresses so does her writing style) to one of a book aimed at children. It's also a jarring transition.
That said - I think she was more than likely a bit too close to the project and probably didn't really see that from a readers perspective. I can't fault her for that because all writers do this but I really think an editor should have realized the epilogue needed some sort of re-write.
But that's just my take on the whole thing. :)

I just think she was too close to it to see it objectively. I blame her editor more than her, really, for not saying something to her. Maybe her editor didn't think of it as a problem but I think she/he should have! That's what professional editors are for after all!

Yikes! That's some scary shit.
That said, Clois and H/Hr? We must be friends! I never really got into Harry Potter fandom, but that was always my pairing of choice. And Clois, of course, transcends all. I've been reading your wonderful fics for some time, but only just entered the LJ world myself. I'd love to have you on my flist. ;)

And you read our stuff? Thank you! Does it sound silly that I'm still amazed how many people are reading? Blows my mind even now! It really does mean a lot!
And it seems we also have friends in common already. :D Welcome aboard!
