For all of you fanfic-writers and readers out there, I really love this little cutie that the Smart Bitches just posted. Even if I do love Anne Rice with all my heart (at least until she ruined the later VC novels). Can I get a here, here!?
I've had several books in my lifetime that I've not really liked the ending, but that was my own personal preference. Not every ending is to your liking. It happens. And besides, it's their baby. Why should I curse and cry?
Heck, I've hated every Laurell K. Hamilton Anita Blake novel since Burnt Offerings. What did I do rather than cry and moan? I stopped reading. Pure and simple.
The same with Anne after Queen of the Damned, which is probably my favorite. Don't get me wrong; I own everything she's ever written. Period. I've read all of the History of the Mayfair Witches novels happily (Stella and Mona, I love you!), but I don't think I've read any more of the Vampire Chronicles other than the stand-alones (The Vampire Armand, Pandora, and Blood and Gold). And don't even get me started on the whole Merrick storyline and the entangling of the vampires with the Mayfair family (I'm sad to say that I did make the mistake of buying Merrick, Blackwood Farm, and absolutely awful Blood Canticle ). Grrr!
But my point is that, in the end, it is the teller's story to tell. We are allowed into their world for a short time to share in the journey of their brainchild. It's their world; we're just passing through. If you don't like the glimpse you get, put down the book. Just put it down.
Or do what the rest of us do.
