kalalanekent: (Lois :: Beautiful)
I've heard this phrase one time too often, feeling my jaw tighten at that last. Which is flatly not true. And this comes from a woman who spoke to her face to face. A lot of people don't know much about Margot Kidder other than that she played Lois Lane to Christopher Reeve's Superman. A good portion don't know that she's Canadian by way of Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories, up near the Arctic Circle. They also have no idea of the filmography of this talented Method actress. Good example: do any of you know that she's had 119 appearances total in movie and film? Or that she dated Richard Pryor, Pierre Trudeau, Brian DePalma (who wrote the screenplay to Sisters and made the film for she and Jennifer Salt as a Christmas present), and various other famous men. She was part of the late 60s film movement in Laurel Canyon. She's well-known to most of the older power-players in Hollywood.

If you think you know Margot Kidder, I'd dare to say you're wrong.

You argue the point? Well, this isn't collected from her lips to my typewriter, but this write-up of her does a good job of telling you who she is. Here's my proof.

Now, ladies and gents, you know a bit more about the amazing woman that plays my favorite spitfire. The biggest crime is that a good portion of her work is unavailable to DVD or even VHS. It truly is a crime that almost no one knows just how talented she really is for just that reason. But sharing it makes me feel better. Thank you, Margot, for being the strong, brave, and unrelenting badass that you are even now. Like I said at Con, I know what you've done and always treasure you for it.

So it seems like it's Awards season already. *hides and goes to get the Tums* I'm not going to be promoting this year, due to a little incident on f_s and the fact that I don't want to be accused of having the popularity vote again, but I want all of you to get out there and READ and nom some new writers! I'm going to set aside some time to really look closer at the fic available so I can do even more noms than last year (and yes, I nom every year in nearly every catagory.)

Let's really try to make things be fandom-wide this year. You love a fic that's amazing, but the author isn't well-known? REC IT! Let us all see. That's the whole point of the awards. To show the writers how much we love their work! And I know from experience just how amazing it is to know that people love and appreciate the hard work you do. I'll never forget the shock and surprise of the first awards season; I couldn't get over the fact that Little Secrets was that well-loved. Let someone else out there feel that awed and amazed. Stand up and make your opinion known.

Now, if you need me, I'll be hiding in the basement with my antacid. *slinks away*
